The customer wanted to open up a traditional kitchen and dining room layout into one generous, modern open plan space. The wall between the two rooms was coming out, which meant structural steel work was needed before anything else could begin.
DC Home managed the entire project from structural calculations through to the final kitchen fit, with building regulations signed off by the council at the end. The customer supplied the kitchen units through Howdens, and DC Home handled everything else.
They went away on a four week cruise while the work was underway. When they came back, it was all done.
What the project involved
Structural work
Removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room and fitted structural steel, with calculations provided by a structural engineer and the work signed off by building control.
Kitchen installation
Full Howdens kitchen fitted including units, island with bar stools, and all cabinetry. Customer selected the layout and units directly with Howdens before the project began.
Worktops
Laminate quartz-effect worktops fitted throughout, giving the look of real quartz at a more accessible price point.
Flooring
LVT herringbone flooring laid throughout the new open plan space. A durable, waterproof alternative to real wood that replicates the look and feel of a natural timber floor.
Appliances
Full suite of Lemona appliances by Howdens installed and tested, including washing machine, tumble dryer and integrated kitchen appliances. All come with a three year warranty.
Electrics
Full new electrics throughout, all plastering and finishing completed by the DC Home team. No subcontractors, no passing the job on.

The standout feature
LVT herringbone flooring was chosen for this project as a practical, hardwearing alternative to real wood. It is stuck directly to the floor and, unlike engineered oak, it is fully waterproof, making it ideal for a busy kitchen environment.
The herringbone pattern adds a premium feel to the space without the cost or maintenance requirements of natural timber. Combined with the quartz-effect worktops, the result is a kitchen that looks high-end while being built to last.
Dan: “With the herringbone floor and the quartz-effect worktops it just looks really, really nice. Opening the two rooms up makes such a difference to how the whole space feels.”
One team throughout
The same team handles structural work, electrics, plumbing, plastering and the kitchen fit. Nothing is passed on.
Building regs handled
All structural work is calculated by a qualified structural engineer and signed off by the council. No shortcuts.
Communication throughout
If something changes or a decision needs making, Dan calls. No surprises at the end.
